• Tropical Storm Nolo, currently centred about 300 miles south of Hawaii's Big Island, is forecast to intensify into a hurricane by Thursday.
• This system, the fourth tropical event of the 2026 hurricane season, is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential coastal flooding to parts of Hawaii.

Impact & Risks

The Big Island and parts of Maui County are at risk of life-threatening flash floods, landslides, and strong winds. Rainfall could reach up to 35 inches on the Big Island and 20 inches on Maui, with other islands receiving up to 6 inches. Coastal flooding and a storm surge of 1-3 feet are also possible, particularly along the Big Island's coast. The storm's winds could cause tree damage, power outages, and structural damage, especially if hurricane-force winds reach the Big Island. High surf and dangerous rip currents are expected to develop by Friday.
